This is the last question I answered:
Question:
I have a 16 yr old son who is the youngest of 4; the only boy. I have raised him w/ plenty of attention and would have been considered a mommas boy.
Their father was abusive and I left him when they were young and love has carried us all.
Now at 16 there seems to be a rebellious attitude toward me and I feel lost with him.
Why does it seem he hates everything I do and his relationship with me is now different?
My Reply:
Life is not easy with teenaged kids… This sentence is always true…
Being the only male at the house and the lack of a positive close male role model are contributing negative factors in your son’s situation.
So what can you do? Here are some suggestions:
Consult with the school guidance services;
Participate in a ‘Parents School’, if such a service is around you; kids do appreciate if their parents show them that they invest time and money in order to understand their points of views.
Share the issue with the father. The situation could be definitely improved if there is a positive way to involve the father with your son’s issues. Shared parenting should not be stopped once a divorce takes place.
Consult with a professional, like me (phone consulting) or go to a traditional face to face counseling with your son.
